Prerequisites: MATH 022, MATH 026,
or MATH 040 or MATH 041, or satisfactory performance on the mathematics
proficiency examination
Textbook: Calculus Early Transcendental Functions: 4th Edition by Larson, Hostetler and Edwards. We will be covering material from Chapters 1-5. A copy of Study and Solutions Guide is on reserve at the library under Math 140. This contains the odd numbered problems from the text solved in detail. It may be checked out for up to two hours at a time.
Calculators: Access to a scientific or graphing calculator is strongly recommended. However, calculators will not be allowed during exams.
Tests: There will be 3 in-class exams worth 80 points each and a comprehensive final worth 160 points. Test dates will be posted on the course website and announced in class.
Grading: Grades will be based on your total out of a possible
500 points (400-exams, 100-homework/labs)
A 93-100 %
A- 90-93 %
B+ 87-90 %
B 83-87 %
B- 80-83 %
C+ 77-80 %
C 70-77 %
D 60-70 %
F 0-60%
If your percentage falls on a boundary value, you will be
given the better of the two grades.
Make-up Exams: A Make-up exam will only be given with a documented University-approved excuse.
Tutoring and Extra Help: There will be math help available at the Math Lab located in Roche Hall. Hours will be announced once they have been determined.
